Good for complete beginners.
Taught by Dr. Melody Smith.
Music fundamentals class lays the foundation to strong music literacy. Beginning music students will learn the basics of music notation: the staff, pitches, note values, and scales.
Practice of these skills will be provided through simple sight-reading, ear-training, and part-singing such as rounds and partner songs – skills which provide instant enjoyment and a sense of accomplishment.
Lastly, a music history component enriches students’ appreciation of serious music through the ages. Students will gain an understanding of the forms, techniques, and compositional terms utilized through the various eras of classical music, and also learn about the stories behind the compositions.
